Unfortunately, this is a "feature" of the phpbb software - they built it that way intentionally, which makes it difficult to fix. I'll look into if anyone's figured a way around it.

I've seen this happen usually when left logged in for longer periods of time - it's like the cookie isn't getting set correctly - let me do some research and see if I can't nail down the "why" of it.

My fault - I updated something in the forums last night and accidentally overwrote that configuration - the correct URL is http://masquerade.endogaming.net/ruleswiki

So, I won't be able to do anything about it *today*, but I did locate a PM searching tool. I'm going to try it on my test instance of phpbb soon and will try and get it in-place.

I have no idea how possible it would be. Let me do some research into what mods exist for phpbb. It's a lot of custom work if I have to do it myself, but it's possible someone has already built an addon that makes it work.

Apparently this is a known issue. Particularly common when you delete a lot of forums all at once... so blame the system change!

Is this still happening? I haven't been able to repro this and have only heard about it happening rarely. It should not be affecting chat, as that runs on an entirely different subsystem from the rest of the site (irc rather than mysql+phpbb)

I believe you may have caught the server during a backup process. I've cleaned up the backup procedure a bit and it should prevent that problem from repeating itself.
