Re: Emoji special characters cause SQL errors
Absolutely. Mostly I wanted to post this so if someone else gets SQL errors, they know they just need to remove emoji.

Emoji special characters cause SQL errors
Cutting and pasting any emojis seems to cause a SQL error when attempting to make a post or send a PM.
The workaround is to avoid using emoji characters.
(I don't think this needs solving, I just took some time to troubleshoot it and figured I'd mention it so others know to avoid this too.)

Re: Benefits of being a Role Player
Planning! Roleplaying games involve a lot of simulations where you work out a plan with a lot of people working together, with plenty of uncertainty that you just work through anyway. Imagination! You're thinking about what's possible, rather than what is. The more you do it, the more you can see th...

Re: What To Do When You've Made A Mistake
One time, in the days of SCM around 2005 or so, I made a huge mistake. Game was in Campbell at that point and I was playing the Ventrue Primogen, and in general I kind of kept the Ventrue domain at the time private, with a few guests at a time. One time, it got very crowded, so my Primogen got nervo...

One way I've seen that helps make conversations more natural on introduction: Come in with something that you want from people.

Re: How to be more welcoming
Another one comes to mind for me, and I suspect many will disagree: Host Events at the same time as other events! In real-life society this can be problematic or rude or just kinda awkward, but in LARP, it can mean that people who don't want to attend an event for some reason won't feel forced to do...

-Delegate. Plot, errands, whatever you've got. It's totally appropriate to snag a bored-looking neonate to pitch in on something, or to ask a primogen for volunteers (of course, it's also nice to make sure people have an out, in case they're not interested). If you don't feel like you have enough g...

How to be more welcoming
Okay! We've had some great advice about how to get involved in game more for new players.
Next question for you all! Any suggestions on how to make scenes more welcoming (without losing flavor or thematic appropriateness, of course).

Re: Some Unsolicited Gaming Advice
Thoughts I have! 1. Listen to other peoples' stories and see how you can get involved or care about them. If you're bored, don't try to push your plots on other people; try to jump in on theirs. Everyone loves talking about their own characters. If you're not getting involved much, ask others ICly a...

How to Complain
We would love it if nobody ever needed to complain. You know, if every action every Staff member made was flawless, if every player conflict was resolved quickly and amicably to mutual satisfaction, if no one broke rules or made mistakes. The closer we get to that, the happier we’ll be. But there’s ...
