Edict of Barbs/Edict of Succession.

Hey folks! So, there was some confusion about the Edict of Barbs and how it relates to BAM canon. We are cleaning those questions up in our own way. Here are the things to know: * The Edict of Barbs is NOT a venomous reference to the Treaty of Thorns, but to a different, more recent agreement. * The...

Avatar Size.

Ok, so I like it a bit bigger. Erm, I mean, Avatars. I increased the acceptable size of our avatars to 150 pixels (50% larger) and 64k data size (100% larger!) My avatar, as of this post, is 150 pixels wide. Let me know if you think this is too big. In the meantime, enjoy having the potential for a ...

BAM, the Weather, and you!

Hey folks, Weather Underground tells me we have a 60% chance of rain tomorrow night during game. This means that there will inevitably be the thing where folks want to know if we are gaming in the garage. While the garage is nice and dry (mostly) and warmer, it is also WAY louder and echo-ey. I know...

Re: On NEEPs

Justin's comments make me realize I forgot to talk about a core thing when it comes to NEEPs. In BAM we have a very flat economy of XP. What I mean by that is most dots are INCREDIBLY cheap, and there is not cost difference between the first and the 5th dot of anything, except disciplines. It is all...

On NEEPs

Neeps are an interesting problem for BAM. Back in the day, NEEPs were designed to slow down the advancement for characters with more XP. They were NOT XP, hence the name. They were not spent by anyone - staff included. The whole point was to try to help level the playing field between a brand new ch...

Re: Character Sheets Online

To respond to Ari's post: * Currently we do allow people to do downtimes with either of thier characters on any given week, with Staff approval. You can play one and do DT's with the other. It doesn't happen often, but it does occasionally come up. * I forsee the way the XP spends working (in this p...

Re: Character Sheets Online

Couple of things: 1) The proposed idea would not replace the sheets at all. You would still have a book, we would still register XP at the beginning of game, and still do shout-outs at the end of game. The main difference is you will see your available XP on the forum, and we will have an authoritat...

Thoughts on a new system.

Many of you may already know, the new By Night Studios (BNS) version of the MET system was finally published last week. As I have mentioned previously, I have been looking at this system as a possible replacement to the system we use here at BAM; but I wanted to talk a little more about it. I have e...

Re: Ralph's thoughts on rules

In reading these responses, something else came up for me that I wanted to express. Right now I spend something like 15 hours a week on BAM and BAM related stuff, between doing actual uptime, downtimes, responding to PMs, keeping up with the boards, rules discussions, plot ideas, and actual staff me...

Re: Ralph's thoughts on rules

I'm hesitant on this rules change because it's quite a jump in power level for BAM to one where I can play a 6th gen Cappadocian with 5 in clan disciplines. Actually, you really can't do that in the new MET system. It would be too many merits. Still, as both Adam and Drea(Prime) have pointed out, t...

Ralph's thoughts on rules

Thanks to Glen (and others) who have asked for my perspective on rules. I will be answering that, plus saying a little about my plans for the future in regard to rules. When I think about rules systems I am very much of two minds on the subject. The way I see things - Rules should either work to sim...

Feeding, the 1-a-Week Willpower Refresh and Herd, please! Thoughts in general, the current mechanics, what's going on that we get Willpower from Feeding Tiles but not Herd, how much needs to be described or role-played versus being hand-waved or implicitly successful, or anything else please. Thank...

Oh. One more thing I'd like to say here....

I love that we allow alts in our game. I think our game would not be as healthy or as much fun without them. It is just this specific thing I have issue with.

Ignoring Alts in Uptime.

Before we get started, this conversation can get confusing so I'd like to make some definitions. Prime character - The character you started the night playing. Alternate character (or alt) - A character you have shelved and are not actively playing that night. Recently I have noticed a number of pla...

Greetings and welcome to this forum. This place is designed to be a place for me (and the rest of staff) to post articles we write about the theory of why we do certain things in gamecraft. I know some of you have interest in why we do some of the things we do, and sometimes there just isn't a good ...

Huh. Let's try this:

Then hit "Copy design" so you can play with it. There are 2d and 3d views, and 2 floors to look at.

It's not ideal, but what do you want for 20 minutes on a break at work. :D

Re: The Rant House

For the record, I am certain that the current Rant House was not established by Henri - it already existed. I suspect that it is supposed to be the same place as Gerard established, but the vaugeries of multiple player/owners and not having a well documented location has migrated it somewhat. I thin...

The Rant House

Hey folks, I got a PM from someone asking for a description of the Rant House. I couldn't believe that it wasn't described in the Locations of Note section - but sure enough, I could not find it there. Normally, I would ask whoever owned the place to describe it, but since it has been a staple of th...
