How old can I be?

Here is a guideline for how old you can make your character:

Generally speaking most characters are going to be under 100 years old as a vampire.

If you would like to be older than that, you will need to work with Staff and submit a background before debuting a character.

With a submitted background characters should be no more than 300 years active. If you want to play someone from the 14 century - no problem. Just have a long time in torpor in your backstory.

Of course you should have generation that makes sense as well. If you are going to be older than 150 years, you really should have 2 dots in Generation.

Remember, for sense of scale: Francois Villon, Prince of Paris is considered to be one of the eldest Princes in all of the Camarilla. He was embraced in 1230.

Finally, with a convincing background, there are exceptions to these guidelines - but they are made at Staff discretion.

Just for clarification: This 300 years active/awake thing? Is this 300 years in a row or total? Because the two are VERY different animals.

Total, unless you can convince staff to make an exception.

Does years active include years as a ghoul?

as a general rule, yes, active years would include years as a ghoul.

On the subject of backgrounds and age, at one point there was a suggested page/years ratio - e.g. 1 page of backstory for every 25 years that character had been around. Is this still a thing?

Nope.

I'd rather not have to read a forty-page long backstory because someone wants an ancient character.

*condenses certain elements of backstory to bring the page count down to 39*

I figured as much, but wanted to be certain first. Thanks!

Those 39 pages better be super interesting. Because TLDR does not win approvals.
