Account Creation

TL;DR for existing players: Now you can create character accounts from within your main, no math quiz or captcha required!!

For our forums, we utilize a linked account process that includes both player and character accounts. Here's how that works.

The first account is your main/master/primary account. You should use your real name / a name you're commonly known by*. It will always be there and belongs to you, the player. Regardless of what characters you play, people can contact you directly. If your name is taken, try your first name + last initial, or use another name that you're comfortable with.

Once you've got a character, they'll need an account also. This way, clan permissions can be applied to the character and not to the player. It makes the forums far more tidy, since most of it is in-character information. It's generally easier to separate out the PMs and traffic per character, as well as making posts easier to identify when people are looking at in-game traffic from you.

Our forums allow you to link the accounts together, so that one is the primary (and the only password you have to remember) - the character accounts are children of that account.

If you already have more than one account (or if your only account is a character account), here's how you link them:

0) If necessary, create a main/player account.
1) Log into your player account.
2) Go to your User Control Panel.
3) Go to Linked Accounts.
3) Go to Manage Linked Accounts.
4) Enter the required fields, and tell the system to link your accounts.

Once you've completed the steps listed, you'll see a new dropdown appear at the top of your screen that tells you that you can switch accounts. Click this dropdown and select the account you want to switch to in order to switch accounts.

If you do not yet have a character account, but do have a player account, you can now (thank you admin!!) create pre-linked accounts from within the main account:

1) Log into your player account.
2) Go to your User Control Panel.
3) Go to Linked Accounts.
4) Go to Create Linked Account.
5) Enter the necessary information to create a new account, and select a default group (usually your clan.)

*Heaven knows I'm the last person to use my real name on the internets, but this isn't an internet community, it's an internet board that is an extension of a real-world community. Since we'll know you in real life (often before you're even on the forums) your main account should be named something identifiable to your real-world self.

If we are a long time player without a player account, can we make one using the linked account system and THEN set it to be our main account? Or will we have to make one the old way?

What Samantha said- I've only ever had the Melissa account. How would I go about making a master "Alison" account, and then linking Melissa as a subordinate account?

First - to clarify - you only *really* need a master account when your prime/main is retired. You DO need a separate character account for each character, and you may not re-use the same account for more than one character. But both the Aoife and Melissa accounts are fine until/unless you retire those (or join staff or do Plot Narrarator stuff).

Re switching mains - I do not know! Let me experiment and find out!

okie doke.

It boils down to how irritating you find the new-account-creation process.

You must create sub-accounts from within master accounts.

You cannot create sub-accounts from within a sub-account.

However:
You can then unlink the accounts, log into the newly-created no-longer-a-sub account, and link your other account to it.

You can also, for the record, use either set of login credentials to get onto the forum, master or sub.

Yeah, when I switched from having MrMacabee as my main account to having Ted as my main account, I had to unlink and relink them all. It was a few minutes annoyance, but it's worked fine ever since.
