Chat Being Sneaky

I've had an issue with private chats in IRC lately. I'll get messages, but the first one will show up in the Status tab and not notify me at all the message was sent. Following messages will open the separate tab as normal.

Dunno what's happening, but I hate having people think I'm ignoring them!

Oh, interesting. My PMs had also not flashed when PMs got updated / chatting resumed after more than 5 minutes break.

I installed mIRC to both my home PCs now, so I do not know if the problem continued.

Zaage, are you using the web client or a third party client (such as mIRC, Trillian, Pidgin, etc)?

I click the pretty link at the top of the page on a normal web browser (Internet Exploder, as that's all the school has) and go with what it opens, so I assume that's the web client.

Yeah, that's the webclient.

I had the same thing happen for me in the web client. Since I switched to mIRC at home, it has not happened again.

I think I discovered the issue.

If (for example) Person A wanted to send me a PM on IRC they would click my name in the general chat. This would open a new tab for the chat for them.

If the first thing they do is an action (/me) it will go to the Status tab instead. If they just say something normally everything works fine.

This has happened a few times when I was talking to a few different people.
