Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
After the all-Gangrel game, I'm now thinking about the upcoming Toreador event, which will be in a few months.
I recommended to Lindsay that maybe we could rent a ballroom somewhere for a few hundred bucks, and then pass around the hat before game to cover costs. Lindsay asked me to post to ask y'all's opinion.
(If we have such an event, I'm hoping people will dress up fancy for it, too.)

Re: Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
We may actually have a location available right next to our house here in SJ, if people decide to rent. We've already asked the owners about rates etc, because we planned to occasionally pitch it as an in-game salon location for special events. I'll let you know when we hear back from them.

I would totally chip in for this! Unfortunately, I probably won't be around for it. If I am, though, I'll totally throw money in.

I'd love to see this happen, and I'd pitch in some money, though it won't be more than $10...

Given how large this game is if almost everyone pitched in $5-$20 it would probably work out.

Re: Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
I voted game site for mainly one reason:
I know I'll feel a bloody fool elsewhere. I'll already feel uneasy 'dressing up' at game site... which I know and by now am comfortable enough with to ignore strangers.
Going to a strange place, playing my role plus being dressed in a way that I am certain to feel uncomfortable in (I hate both dresses and make-up) will mean I will not be very much Fawn. More like fawn in headlights. :\
If it IS the general consensus, I will pitch in for the money. But I need to throw this disclaimer in.

If we rented a ball-room, it would basically just be us Ges. You needn't worry looking like a fool in front of strangers.

I would gladly toss a few bucks to staff for this, though I myself am likely to bow out of the session... I make a terrible Toreador :\

Re: Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
This would be for September 2nd? Or would we push it back a bit to allow more normal games between one-shot nights?
(I'm happy to pitch in for a fancy alternate locale either way, and will help out with decor and prep if I can, but once we get into October/November territory, I might not be able to attend the actual event :\ )

Oh! Sorry! I forgot to address that for those of you who were not at game on Friday.
In order to put more time between one shot events we will finding a good in story reason for the event to get pushed back more into Oct/Nov/Dec sometime.
Thanks for asking that Ari!

Oh... in that case I possibly just don't quite understand what we have in mind here. >.>Ralph wrote:If we rented a ball-room, it would basically just be us Ges. You needn't worry looking like a fool in front of strangers.

Re: Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
A closed, private, hotel sort of ball room that we can decorate and set up food at and have nice indoor weather in and have a fancy feel - but be secluded away from the public so we are guaranteed not to have interruptions from people asking why we're in corsets or harem pants in november on the street?FawnBusko wrote: Oh... in that case I possibly just don't quite understand what we have in mind here. >.>
Well - that's one way to look at it at any rate.
The other would be that we're going for something like "vampire prom" as Brian put it in a pm to me.
I think Ted just suggested it as a way that we could have a private indoor location big enough for all of us, with power plugs so that we could maybe even have music for dancing or something and so that we could go all out with costumes and not worry about weather concerns.

and as for not looking weird in public you can always wear a coat to and from said hotel. But I do understand the concern.
You made Teddy very angry...

Re: Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
Honestly, if we do end up deciding on using a hotel ball room, there are plenty of them around that won't bat an eyelash at us. I mean, If the Santa Clara Hyat can handle the insanity that is BayCon, and it's attendees running around in everything from storm trooper armor to bunny fur sporting barbarian wannabees, it can handle us.
If a hotel staff has handled a con of any scale, they won't even look twice at us.
In fact, if we go with that specific hotel, we have players and former players that have ties to said hotel, and might be able to wrangle a better rate.

How about sometime mid December? Since school is starting for me in one week, and ends in the first two weeks od Dec. It allows plenty of time to get costumes ready for the event and focus on school.

Re: Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
I'm actually keeping my fingers crossed for October, me. I know it's very soon, but I'm hoping to be able to attend.
*hope hope hope*
Staff, I've already mentioned this to Ted, but if the event is post-October, I'm interested in helping with anything I can from home for prep/organization/et cetera!

Re: Toreador Grand Ball -- location?
The closer we get to December, the higher the cost for a ballroom (Company christmas parties start around mid November.)
